Cocktail Martini

With a little experience in the cocktail and drinks industry, I still have a love for the look of a well made drink.
This is the first time I have created glass using, specular and reflective maps etc.

I started off creating a simple shape of a Coupe glass, using '3' or 'smoothing' to smooth out the mesh. I had added an inner section to the glass, and a separate object for the liquid in the glass. I have added my garnish which is the 2 olives on a cocktail stick.

As you can see I focused here on fleshing out the look, I knew I wanted a marble table textured so. However when trying to create a perfect looking glass material I found it hard and had to search for a good tutorial for settings and tips.

With these 3 you can tell my attempt in understanding the material, I wanted it translucent yet with the reflectivity high. Anyway I managed to find this amazing page which I would highly recommend:

https://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/create-realistic-glass-and-caustics-in-maya-part-2--cg-30722

It also has a water material which I found useful to base a martini liquid on.

It makes all the difference, almost makes you want to reach out and touch it. The background is to help give an idea of area reflection in the model and atmosphere lighting.

As always my textures are minimal and I wish to one day be able to bring my traditional art style to creating nice textures. Until then I'm aiming to learn what I can modelling realistic assets.

Here you can see I have changed the background, I added bump maps to my table top olives, napkin and cocktail stick. Now I need to focus on lighting to try and match that of the bar image behind. (which is not my image)

My napkin I had to divide and 'ruffle' so its less static.

In the end I still am not sure which image I prefer, I added Pinks/Blues and purples to my lighting, with directional and a point light to try and mimic that of the table behind.

I never really know what to say, I try to just show my images as the progress. And hopefully i'll be able to achieve the same look but quicker next time. I hope to make a bunch of these side by side. Mixing my love for cocktails and 3D art.

Laundry Room

Inspired by the cacti craze, I decided to make a laundry room with sed plants in to make it a nice happy place that I would like to do my chores in. These are my ink drawings: You only need to take these simple ideas into Photoshop for spacing and size when modeling! And from this I started to create in Maya...

Kitchen Lights

My second crack at lighting with this kitchen scene. I managed to do some Texture Maps, sort some of the UV's add Normal maps in places and I even had some fun with a specular map. again the challenge can be found here along with the model, http://3drender.com/challenges/ This kitchen scene was modeled by Jeremy Birn. After adding all the detail I wanted. I just added lights. I'm not entirely sure what Im doing, but it seemed to go okay. Just had to make sure they looked semi realistic and the right colour... heh. ^^^ This mess is what I call my lights. Just to show myself the specular map. White is shiny. For the specular map I used these brushes: https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/6697-splatters-and-stains-photoshop-brushes Ok now, this is how many times (plus at least 10 more, i changed my lights.) You can see by this point I wanted to add something more. Hence the table. I changed a lot of materials, mainly between blinn and lambert ...

The Rose

I decided yesterday to go out and create something small, but see what I could do with it.. I chose the rose. And using this tutorials I slowly built up my rose model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Ll-0Z6KM8&feature=share I then wasn't sure how to pose my rose, or present it and of course I thought of beauty and the beast. SO here is the inspired beauty and the beast rose.  My tests below are all about lighting, its the most infuriating yet satisfying thing with 3D.   (I wanted the 'Disney' glow)  Here I decided my marble table needed some bump mapping.  By this point everything I was doing was minimal and half the time I didn't even have a clue. So I pause to look at my maps. Texture, bump and transparency.  (under the petals, adds a little colour) Here this confused me... I still wouldn't be able to tall you straight off which colour is see through and which isn't. But basically black and white inve...
