Cocktail Martini

With a little experience in the cocktail and drinks industry, I still have a love for the look of a well made drink. This is the first time I have created glass using, specular and reflective maps etc.  I started off creating a simple shape of a Coupe glass, using '3' or 'smoothing' to smooth out the mesh. I had added an inner section to the glass, and a separate object for the liquid in the glass. I have added my garnish which is the 2 olives on a cocktail stick. As you can see I focused here on fleshing out the look, I knew I wanted a marble table textured so. However when trying to create a perfect looking glass material I found it hard and had to search for a good tutorial for settings and tips. With these 3 you can tell my attempt in understanding the material, I wanted it translucent yet with the reflectivity high. Anyway I managed to find this amazing page which I would highly recommend: https://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/create-realist...

The Rose

I decided yesterday to go out and create something small, but see what I could do with it.. I chose the rose. And using this tutorials I slowly built up my rose model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Ll-0Z6KM8&feature=share I then wasn't sure how to pose my rose, or present it and of course I thought of beauty and the beast. SO here is the inspired beauty and the beast rose.  My tests below are all about lighting, its the most infuriating yet satisfying thing with 3D.   (I wanted the 'Disney' glow)  Here I decided my marble table needed some bump mapping.  By this point everything I was doing was minimal and half the time I didn't even have a clue. So I pause to look at my maps. Texture, bump and transparency.  (under the petals, adds a little colour) Here this confused me... I still wouldn't be able to tall you straight off which colour is see through and which isn't. But basically black and white inve...

Glass Bottles WIP

I'm posting this here quickly, it was a glass bottle project again based on the 3D light challenges (can be found in my previous posts) As you can see I changed the lighting  a lot and I'm still unsure if i like it, but its a WIP!

3D Hare Fur - learning and rendering

With this scene I have changed to an old Mac desktop which meant a lot of my higher demanding tasks, like fur!, took a while longer to work through. I am still using Maya Autodesk with Mental Ray rendering. SO once again we are covering the 3D challenges found here: http://www.3drender.com/challenges/ This Hare/Bunny/Rabbit was created by Jeremy Birn and I actually quite like the shape of him/her. Anyway, basically I started off following this amazing tutorial on Xgen Maya fur creation and rendering: http://www.creativebloq.com/3d/how-master-hair-and-fur-maya-71412500 - please check it out, its useful and he cracks me up with his Northern Jokes.  Here is the XGen fur on the model as is first created. This isn't the actual hairs, but an idea as to what the fur/hairs may be doing. What direction/length/ clumping they are in relation to each other and the surface.  Rabbit Butt. Initially the fur was patchy, down to density and it actually being ...

Kitchen Lights

My second crack at lighting with this kitchen scene. I managed to do some Texture Maps, sort some of the UV's add Normal maps in places and I even had some fun with a specular map. again the challenge can be found here along with the model, http://3drender.com/challenges/ This kitchen scene was modeled by Jeremy Birn. After adding all the detail I wanted. I just added lights. I'm not entirely sure what Im doing, but it seemed to go okay. Just had to make sure they looked semi realistic and the right colour... heh. ^^^ This mess is what I call my lights. Just to show myself the specular map. White is shiny. For the specular map I used these brushes: https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/6697-splatters-and-stains-photoshop-brushes Ok now, this is how many times (plus at least 10 more, i changed my lights.) You can see by this point I wanted to add something more. Hence the table. I changed a lot of materials, mainly between blinn and lambert ...

Fruit Bowl

I've tried this new 'Light Challenge'.. well it's not a new one, but I've only just come across it. Basically it encourages 3D artists and modelers to explore light and learn something new using the available objects and scenes. Find the challenge here: http://www.3drender.com/challenges/ So here is a fruit bowl. As I said the models haven't been created by me, however I did texture and light up the scene. This is the first time I did the process from start to finish and I came across A LOT of problems. Most of which were setting up issues that I didn't know about. Thank you google, you are my friend. Total lights: 5  This is modeled originally by Dan Wade (Renowned 3D artist check him out) Here is the model without render. It looks lighter than you'd think, so make sure you check renders constantly. The wire mesh is below, to show what the model looked like.  Turn off lights so you can see whats effecting what. I also ten...
