Kitchen Lights

My second crack at lighting with this kitchen scene.
I managed to do some Texture Maps, sort some of the UV's add Normal maps in places and I even had some fun with a specular map.

again the challenge can be found here along with the model, http://3drender.com/challenges/
This kitchen scene was modeled by Jeremy Birn.

After adding all the detail I wanted. I just added lights. I'm not entirely sure what Im doing, but it seemed to go okay. Just had to make sure they looked semi realistic and the right colour... heh.

^^^
This mess is what I call my lights.

Just to show myself the specular map. White is shiny.

For the specular map I used these brushes: https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/6697-splatters-and-stains-photoshop-brushes

Ok now, this is how many times (plus at least 10 more, i changed my lights.)

You can see by this point I wanted to add something more. Hence the table. I changed a lot of materials, mainly between blinn and lambert to be honest.

The image at the back is my own photo on an image plane, you also need to light that up.

Towards the end you tend to be tweaking the most, and I find that I have to stop at some point as theres only so much my eyes can take. I'm hoping that the more models and scenes i do, i'll learn more this way. rather than trying to perfect everything. So I wasn't worried, just happy it looks semi good!

This took best part of 2 days, I used 7 lights. I'm unsure if that's a lot or not..? but the render times seemed fine.

2 down. and still more to learn!

Laundry Room

Inspired by the cacti craze, I decided to make a laundry room with sed plants in to make it a nice happy place that I would like to do my chores in. These are my ink drawings: You only need to take these simple ideas into Photoshop for spacing and size when modeling! And from this I started to create in Maya...

The Rose

I decided yesterday to go out and create something small, but see what I could do with it.. I chose the rose. And using this tutorials I slowly built up my rose model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Ll-0Z6KM8&feature=share I then wasn't sure how to pose my rose, or present it and of course I thought of beauty and the beast. SO here is the inspired beauty and the beast rose.  My tests below are all about lighting, its the most infuriating yet satisfying thing with 3D.   (I wanted the 'Disney' glow)  Here I decided my marble table needed some bump mapping.  By this point everything I was doing was minimal and half the time I didn't even have a clue. So I pause to look at my maps. Texture, bump and transparency.  (under the petals, adds a little colour) Here this confused me... I still wouldn't be able to tall you straight off which colour is see through and which isn't. But basically black and white inve...
